Frequent Causes of Gum Pain

Posted .

Do you have pain in your gums? If so, you’re probably wondering what is causing it. This is a good first step because one of the best things you can do to eliminate the pain is define it, which means to identify the cause. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Ravi Aulakh, is happy to help you by listing some of the reasons why your gums might be in pain, which are:

-Gingivitis: This is the first stage of gum disease. It develops when plaque does not get removed from your teeth regularly. As time goes on, the plaque irritates the gums, making them swollen, red, and even bloody.

-Periodontitis: This is the second stage of gum disease. It develops when you do not treat gingivitis in a timely manner. It involves your gums becoming so irritated that they pull away from your teeth and form pockets that gather bacteria and food debris regularly.

-Impacted wisdom teeth: If your wisdom teeth try to erupt from the gums but they don’t have enough room, they become impacted. This causes extreme pain in the gums and jaw.

In all of these major situations, it’s important to schedule an appointment at our dental office as soon as possible.
