Treating Chronic Bad Breath

Posted .

Who doesn’t love the feeling of fresh breath? You can keep your mouth healthy and your breath pleasant by implanting the following five habits into your oral health routine.

Mouth-washing. Though mouthwash is only a temporary solution, it can destroy bacteria and mask your breath. Because the effects of mouthwash aren’t permanent, you’ll have to deeply clean your mouth if you hope to remove plaque and bacteria buildup.

Tongue-scraping. If you’ve never used a tongue scraper, you’ve been missing out! These inexpensive, scraping tools get rid of odor-causing build-up resting on your tongue. We recommend tongue scrapers for all our patients, but brushing your tongue with your toothbrush is a good alternative treatment.

Teeth-brushing. We recommend that our patients spend time brushing their teeth at least twice daily. Brushing will help improve your breath by dislodging odor-causing food particles and plaque, and many toothpastes contain ingredients for improving the scent of your breath.

Flossing. We also recommend that our patients spend time flossing between their teeth at least once per day. Flossing removes debris and food particles that can lodge between your teeth and lead to plaque build-up, which is a major cause of bad breath.
